One task for marketing people is to figure out what products and services people really need and will pay for. Another is how to take new technologies and figure out how to make them relevant to solving people’s problems. Targeted marketing based on studying people’s online behavior is a growing field, although for many people it raises disturbing issues of privacy.
Marketing people, like everyone else, will need to keep learning and adapting to better tools with a particular focus on the ability to sort through enormous amounts of data to discover patterns and insights.
