Even after all of the advancements in online learning that we have seen over the last 20 years, the role of the educator is still at the heart of most educational systems and experiences. Most of us can still remember a handful of teachers who had an important impact on our lives.
Teachers form the backbone of primary and secondary education around the world and will continue to do so for many years. They do, however, need to be fully up to date in using digital technology in and outside of the classroom since many educational experiences are increasingly combining face-to-face and online elements.
As technology improves, it is likely that parts of the current educational offering will probably migrate online. The role of an educator will then evolve into designing such experiences and perhaps monitoring students’ progress rather than standing in front of the classroom.
