While politicians in different countries might slow things down or speed things up, in the medium term, the world has no choice but to move to a low carbon economy and that means the massive adoption of clean energy.
In this space, I would include companies that finance, manufacture, and manage the renewable and distributed energy infrastructure that the world will need to deal with the threat of climate change.
This includes manufacturers of solar panels, and wind turbines, and the companies building the electrical infrastructure needed to rebuild power grids and manage distributed energy networks. It also includes a large number of HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians who will be involved in making our buildings and homes more energy efficient.
There is an enormous amount of software and artificial intelligence needed in this field, and I would also include specialized engineering outfits and startups in the overall space.
The advantage of the space is that in the long term I think it is a sure bet. The disadvantage is the timing of particular aspects of the space, such as the rate of deployment of offshore wind, in specific places or geographies can be uncertain depending on the politics of a given country or territory.
