Learning to Fly is an interactive website that I built to act as a complement to the book by the same title that has been published by Anthem Press in September 2022.
The site has a summary of some of the key ideas in the book, a full set of charts that are provided for you to determine your own flight plan as well as different forums and an opportunity to share your own career story with others.
I am a Professor of the Practice of Management in the Strategic Management Department at IESE Business School where I lecture on strategy, geopolitics, and sustainability in IESE’s MBA programs. You can learn more about my role as an academic here.
Before joining the faculty at the business school, I was the leader of the Global Automotive Practice for Heidrich & Struggles, one of the leading Executive Search firms in the world. As a headhunter, I constantly met with executives and spoke with them about the choices they made in their professional lives and their hopes for the future.
I left that job to join the faculty at IESE Business School, where I had done my own MBA many years before.
At IESE business school. I not only give advice to students and former students but am also routinely asked to see different people of all ages by my colleagues on the faculty.
Over the years I estimate that I have spoken to something like three thousand people about their careers. Learning to Fly offers what I have learned about managing careers and the changing world.
